Myself and Eileen, a fellow animal rescue volunteer, have set up Staffie Support specifically to help Staffordshire Bull Terriers after seeing the frightening truth about the UK’s staffies – overbreeding to the extreme, abandonment in huge numbers and abuse when they end up in the wrong hands.

Set up completely by volunteers, there will be lots of info available about the plight of the staffies – leaflets, posters & even a staffy or two there to act as breed ambassadors

They will also be fundraising for DASH Rescue – please donate to help them rescue more Staffordshire Bull Terriers in urgent need.

So you love the Staffy breed? – be they pure bred Staffordshire Bullterrier or a Staffy cross

…and you know that they can be the most comical, charismatic, loving and gentle dogs.

Unfortunately not everyone sees or knows this…so to help combat the negative publicity that surrounds Staffy’s and to show ‘the other side’ of these great dogs please enter my photo competition.

I need photographs showing the happy, loving, loyal side of these dogs – photographs of them with the kids, with other dogs, being playful, dressed up or just being a ‘mad’ Staffy!

Photographs entered will be displayed at my Staffy Awareness event at Stafford M.O.D. Open day on September 4th 2010.

I will be taking votes off the public on the day as to their favourite. There are no fantastic prizes for the winner I am afraid but the winning photo will be honoured by being used on t-shirts and literature at future Staffy Awareness events and promotions (so you must be agreeable to the picture being used in this context)

The main aim of my stall will be to raise awareness of the Poundie situation, the crisis regarding Staffy / Staffy crosses ending up in the pounds and to promote the Staffy’s in a positive light as the loyal, loving breed they really are. I will also try and raise money which will be donated to Precious Poundies for Emergency Boarding of dogs in desperate need from the Pounds.

So come on dig out those funny, silly photos that show the Staffy’s as the dogs we know and love – smiling, running around, friendly with other dogs, loving to children and generally daft!!…….the more the merrier!

The Staffy(s) in the photograph can be yours, or one in rescue (with the rescue’s permission).

Staffy Awareness stall at Stafford M.O.D Open Day, Stafford on Saturday 4th September 2010

The aim of the stall will be to promote positive images / information about Staffies and highlight the plight of the Poundies. There will be various things to raise money as well…tombolas etc and any money raised will be going to Precious Poundies.

For this you get a ticket with an individual number on it (I can post you receipt or email you your number) – I tie it to a balloon and launch it at the event. All the balloons and tickets being used are biodegradable.

Oh and if anyone lives close enough to be able to give me a hand on the day let me know, I promise to make muffins.

“I aim to walk the Heart of England Way, a 100 mile route in 5 days – so 20 miles a day. I will be doing this to raise money for Poundie dogs and rescues who help them – my nominations will be Precious Poundies, Once Loved Dog Rescue and Doris Banham – but as well as fundraising I would dearly love to tie it in with attracting the local press and maybe running some sort of small stall or something like that in each town I stop in.

I will be walking through the following counties;

Staffordshire
Warwickshire
Gloucestershire

so I am looking for people who could act as the following in those areas:

Regional Co-ordinators – to contact the press, local celebs, vets, dog wardens, local rescues, councils etc and to co-ordinate other local volunteers who may want to get involved

Local volunteers – to prepare a stall about the Staffy plight and local dogs for adoption, to ‘man’ the stall, perhaps sell some items (crafts, cakes etc), put up posters locally, provide refreshments for me!! and any other walkers and their dogs

Other walkers who maybe want to raise funds for their own rescue by walking the route with me or a part of it.

Generally people to cheer me on and get involved.

I do not plan to do this until the week beginning 5th September 2010 so it is in the very early planning stages – plus I have to get fit first! -but I would love to hear from anyone who would like to to get involved with one of the roles or can offer any support in any way. I want to try and spread the message about the Staffy plight.”
